When my daughter was 5 years old we use to spend hours day dreaming about the things we wanted to do in life like own a cafe, become a famous singer or dancer and then one day I started talking about cats and I told her I had always dreamed of owning a Ragdoll Cat and breeding them so that others could enjoy the pleasure of owning the most adorable cat breed alive today. When I was growing up my family was always taking in stray animals. Dogs, cats, even frogs! We always seemed to attract females because almost every one of them would be pregnant or get pregnant soon after we took them in and we would have a litter of puppies, kittens or tadpoles, some weeks later. Those days are some of the best memories of my childhood. I got to watch on as one of the dogs and many of the cats gave birth to little sacs of fur, then clean them to make them look like a puppy or a kitten instead of a slimy alien. It was a life lesson that only a small percentage of children would ever get to experience. I would rush home from school every day to be with the little babies. When they were newborns we were told not to touch. It was so hard to control the voice in my head screaming because they were just so cute, adorable and playful.
When telling these stories to my daughter Jessica, I decided that was something that I wanted and would love to share with her. So after sharing my dream with Jessica, she decided that we were going to do this and from that day began planning our cattery.
I started reading everything I could about owning a cat, breeding, birthing, diet, DNA testing. I started planning where we could keep the queens and the studs and eventually the kittens and got my husband James involved too who began building it for me. I shopped for beds and feeding bowls and toys galore. Perhaps we went a little overboard with the shopping! I joined the Feline Control Council of Victoria, applied to become a breeder, applied for a source code etc and successfully completed the Breeding Dogs and Cats Course prepared by Animal Welfare Victoria.
We got our first 2 Ragdoll Queens and named them Willow and Paige. Willow is a Blue Mitt Tabby Ragdoll while Paige is a Blue Colourpoint. Both have such beautiful temperaments and we have had so much fun with them while we waited for them to grow into the most gorgeous cats (in our opinion!) that were old enough to begin the breeding process. Now here we are........ Meow Meow KITTENS 2 CATS.
Our Queens were purchased by another Mother and daughter breeding team whom I found to be a fountain of knowledge, kindness and whom shared the love I had for Ragdolls. They have had years of experience and at every show they take home more ribbons in every ragdoll category than I thought could be possible. The pure pedigree of my two kittens, Willow and Paige, are nothing short of amazing. The studs we have have bred them to we hope to produce beautiful ragdolls in a variety of colours and Patterns. We put a lot of thought into the Stud selection for our girls to produce beautiful kittens.
